Risdon leaves Glory for rival

Socceroo Josh Risdon will leave the Glory at seasons end and take up a two-year deal with A-League rivals Western Sydney.

Risdon said the decision was not an easy one to make.

“For the past seven years I have bled purple and I owe a lot to Perth Glory and my coaches. It’s here where I have been fortunate to lead the team on the park and as a result earn a berth in the Socceroos.” Risdon said.

Perth Glory CEO Peter Filopoulos said the club were disappointed by the decision.

“Despite presenting a very strong offer to Josh and his management we’ve been advised that he won’t be renewing his contract for season 2017/18 and beyond” Filopoulos said.

The club is already in a contract battle with Rhys Williams who failed to turn up to training on Wednesday.

Perth understand Williams was ill and could miss his fifth consecutive game this weekend.

If Williams fails to play a certain amount of games in the season a clause his contract will allow him an out.

Sydney FC are in-line to claim Williams services.
