This mother of two has left behind an amazing legacy.
**UPDATED 12.9.17** - Connie Johnson will be farewelled in a service on Saturday, September 23.
Her brother, Samuel Johnson, posted the information on the Love Your Sister Facebook page. The post also confirmed the service will be live streamed to the hundreds of thousands of people who follow her on Facebook.
Connie Johnson, who co-founded the charity Love Your Sister with her younger brother Samuel Johnson, lost her long battle with cancer on Friday, September 8. She was 40.
Connie became one of the country's biggest breast cancer advocates after finding out she had cancer for the third time in her life at the age of 33.
With the unwelcome prognosis, she was given only one year to live, but like when she was eleven and had been diagnosed with a tumour in her leg, and in her twenties when she was told she had cancer in her womb, she faced it head on, raising as much awareness as she could from her bedside and urging women everywhere to 'check your boobs.'
Seven years later and her Love Your Sister foundation has raised over five and a half million dollars towards cancer research!!
It all started with one wheel, when her brother, Logie winner, Samuel Johnson, set off armed with only his unicycle and determination, to ride around Australia to raise 1million for his sister, and also raise awareness for the hideous disease that was taking her life. It worked and the Love Your Sister village was born.
That also included her Big Heart Project, which saw the nationwide donation of 5c pieces smashing a Guinness world record of the biggest heart made out of five cent coins, that raised over 2.5 million dollars!!
Seven years ago, Connie was told to arrange her affairs but instead she fought with everything she had in her and left a legacy behind that her two beautiful sons Willoughby, 10, and Hamilton, 9, can be proud of and that has touched thousands of people all around the world.
Connie, Willoughby (10), husband Mike and Hamilton (9).
Johnson shared the passing of his 'Connie Cottonsocks' to the Love Your Sister village Facebook page, which has over 500,000 loyal members.
"We lost Connie today. Or, as she asked me to say, she died of cancer today. It was so beautiful. We laughed, we cried, we sang stupid songs from our childhood to her, which she loved (mostly!). I read her so many village messages, which she relished. She went so richly, and with such grace. Trust me, she was genuinely cushioned by your love, till the end."
Sleep peacefully Connie xx
