Australia's own Ruby Rose has been cast as Batwoman and will be the first ever LGBT character in the DC universe.
Australian model and DJ turned Hollywood actress Ruby Rose has been cast as the latest member of the DC universe, making her the first ever LGBT character in the franchise.
Ruby will be heading to Gotham City in DC’s ever-expanding universe in the form of a TV series under platform The CW.
The Bat is out of the bag and I am beyond thrilled and honored. I’m also an emotional wreck.. because this is a childhood dream. This is something I would have died to have seen on TV when I was a young member of the LGBT community who never felt represented on tv and felt alone and different. Thank you everyone. Thank you god.
She will play ‘Kate Kane’ a wealthy heiress inspired by Batman’s antics and skilled in martial arts.
The CW's superhero catalogue now includes a lesbian superhero played by a lesbian actress as well as a trans actress playing a trans superhero, with Nicole Maines cast as Nia Nal aka 'Dreamer' in the next season of Supergirl.
We’ll see the first of Ruby as Batwoman this December in an 'Arrow' crossover event.
