Sam Armytage says goodbye to Sunrise after 8 years

"I cannot thank you all enough for having me in your lounge rooms all these years.”

Samantha Armytage has announced she is resigning from Channel 7’s Sunrise.

Armytage broke down in tears as she dropped the bombshell live on air Monday morning

"The time has come for the sun to set on my time at Sunrise," she said on the program, "I want to step out of this public world for a while and take some time out. As many of you know, my personal life the last six months has been very bittersweet. Some bits have been very happy and some bits have been very, very sad and I want to step out of this public world for a while, take some time and calm things down.”

The bittersweet she is referring to, is of course, marrying her husband Richard Lavender in a surprise New Years Eve ceremony, and the heartbreaking moment was losing her precious mother Libby Armytage at 68 last year from an autoimmune disease.

The 44 year-old TV host has been doing the early morning high-profile role with co-host David Kochshow for the past 8 years, and has decided it's now time to take a step back from the spotlight and focus on herself, her family, and her new husband.

Sam's last show on Sunrise will be this Thursday, March 11.
