WARNING - THIS ARTICLE IS FULL OF SPOILERS
Season 8 Episode 1 of Game of Thrones debuted on Monday (AWST) and viewing numbers were hotter than dragon fire with 17.4 million viewers worldwide fixed to the screen to see all their favourite Westerosi characters reunite after a 20-month hiatus.
Arya and Jon Snow anyone?!
Basically, all of the major characters were under the same roof for the first time in many seasons, and it was glorious to behold.
But first of all... a special mention to the special effects team for the brand new intro!!
Just in case you need it... here is a little recap of S8: EP1.
In a poetic way, it came full circle from Season one's first episode, where Winterfell received the King of Westeros (at the time), Robert Baratheon, asking for Eddard Stark's help to rule the Seven Kingdoms - which didn't end too well for Ned Stark - and the battle of the Five Kings ensued.
Now, all of the houses have had to set aside their differences (including that whole issue of 'who is really the true heir to the Iron Throne'... Dany? Jon? Aegon?) and band together to fight the bigger threat - The Night King and the Army of the Dead - who are bringing The Long Night to Westeros and are basically on Winterfell's doorstep.
The King in the North, Jon Snow has been on a quest to rally forces, including Queen Daenerys Targaryen and her two dragons, with her Unsullied and Dothraki fighters, all of the Bannermen from the North and Southern regions, plus the Wildling army and the mystical Brotherhood without Banners... but will it be enough to stop the Night King and save the Seven Kingdoms from an eternal winter?
All we do know is that the reunion of Brandon Stark (aka the Three-eyed Raven) and Jaime Lannister was EVERYTHING. The last time Bran saw the Kingslayer, was in season one, when he pushed him out of the tower window and he woke up as a cripple.
Meanwhile, we will just wait for next Monday, S8: E2!!!
And here is a really cool look into how much work went into the production of Season 8's first episode.
