'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' opening weekend breaks box office records

The force is still with us...

The latest instalment in the Star Wars film franchise has smashed it’s opening weekend in cinemas, raking in over $230 million at the international box office.

This makes it the second biggest launch weekend of all time in Australia behind it's predecessor “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and is just the fourth film to open above $260 million in the country.

Worldwide the film made $450 million in its opening weekend making it the fifth best performing movie on an opening weekend of all time behind “Fate of the Furious” at $541 million, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” at $529 million, “Jurassic World” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.”

Scoring critical acclaim with a score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes; "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" starring Daisy Ridley, John BoyegaMark Hamel and the late Carrie Fisher is in cinemas now.
