Eagles claim AFLW triumph

The Eagles have broken through for their first victory of the AFLW season holding off the Gold Coast Suns by just one-point.

West Coast led by eight-points with just over two minutes remaining in the clash before the heat was turned up by the Suns.

Suns forward Kalinda Howarth kicked truly to close the margin to two points, before a Jamie Stanton snap rolled just wide to make it a one-point game.

Eagles runner Jacob Brennan gave away a free kick with just over 90-seconds after getting in the way of play.

The defence stood tall and rebounded the ball for the siren to sound just a few seconds later the Eagles triumphing 5.4.34 to 4.9.33.

Eagles coach Daniel Pratt post-game said it felt good to win.

"It's been a lot of effort and work from the girls to get to this point.

"We've had lots of injuries along the way. I'm just pleased for the reward for effort."
