Eagles miss golden chance

The Eagles hopes of claiming back to back premierships have been dealt a major blow after being thumped by the Hawks by 38-points.

West Coast now face the destiny of finishing in fifth place and without a second chance in the finals series.

The Eagles will host either the Hawthorn again, the Western Bulldogs or Adelaide in the first week of the finals unless Brisbane can defeat Richmond at the MCG on Sunday.

In the event that the Lions do win then the Eagles could well be headed to face them in the first week of the finals at the Gabba.

It was a poor night for the home side who kicked just five-goals after quarter-time in the 16.9.105 to 9.13.67 loss.

Willie Rioli booted three majors while Jack Darling, Josh Kennedy and Liam Ryan kicked two goals each.
