Young Fremantle forward Jye Amiss is set for a long stint on the sidelines after suffering a kidney injury while playing for Peel Thunder in the WAFL.

The 18-year-old required surgery following Peel's game with South Fremantle on Saturday after being kneed in the back.

Executive General Manager of Football Peter Bell said it's not good news for Amiss.

“Jye sustained a pretty heavy impact injury to his kidney in the game against South Fremantle. He had to go to hospital, he’s had some surgery on that kidney,” Bell said.

“He’s doing well at the moment and we’re just getting all the opinions as to what it means for his football, but he’ll be out for a period of time.”

Amiss had an impressive AFL debut against North Melbourne in round eight where he kicked two goals.
