Mariners slow one-day form continues

Rockingham-Mandurah have started the new year on the wrong foot suffering a 38-run loss to South Perth.

South Perth batted first and posted 6/225, Craig Simmons claiming 4/48 for the Mariners.

The chase started with a wobble Dane Ugle out for no score leaving the home side struggling at 3/36 and then 5/68 a short time later.

Nathan Vernon and Brandon Jacobs went out steadying the ship and combined to put on a 59-run partnership.

Vernon fell with the score at 137 to leave the game in the balance.

Skipper Simmons went cheaply and the small hope the Mariners then had faded quickly and the side was bowled out for 187 in the 50th over.

Rockingham-Mandurah are on the road next week taking on Perth at Fletcher Park in another 50-over encounter.
