Socceroos out of Asian Cup

The Socceroos have been eliminated from the Asian Cup defeated 1-0 by host nation the UAE.

A costly Milos Degenek defensive error was the difference between the two sides and send UAE into the semi-finals.

Degenek's short backpass in the 68th minute allowed UAE striker Ali Mabkhout to nip in and around Mat Ryan before slotting into an empty net.

Midfielder Jackson Irvine said post-match the result was extraordinarily tough to take.

"It's hard to wrap your emotions after it so quickly after the game. We had enough that we could've created more and made more use of the ball when we had it." Irvine said.

"It's down to one moment that's decided the game and we just have to deal with that. Obviously all the boys will be together, we win as a team and we lose as a team."

Japan and Iran will meet in the other semi-final clash.
