A Golden Bay woman has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty related to the death of two dogs in August.

The arrest follows an investigation by Armadale Detectives and the RSPCA into the death of two female pure bred Belgian Malinois dogs, Kaiser and Kyra.

The 78-year-old woman allegedly drove to a Kenwick property at 4am on August 3 and threw bones laced with the poison Strychnine over the fence.

It is alleged the two dogs became seriously ill after consuming the bones and died 30 minutes later.

The maximum penalty for this offence is a $50,000 fine and 5 years imprisonment.

The woman is due to appear before the Perth Magistrate Court on October 28.
