Federal Member for Canning Andrew Hastie has committed $1.37 million in funding to build a new skate park in Lakelands under an elected Liberal Government.
The new skate park will be located at Lakelands Park on a 2000 square metre site.
Mr Hastie said the project will address the growing demand for more recreational spaces in Mandurah’s northern suburbs with the population of Lakelands and nearby Madora Bay set to increase by 81 per cent by 2036.
“Young people in Lakelands have been asking for more recreational spaces, which is why I’m pleased to announce that a Liberal Government will step up and deliver funding for a new Lakelands Skate Park,” Mr Hastie said.
“This is about giving local kids a safe and accessible place to skate, ride, and catch up with their mates. It’s about giving our kids a healthy, positive outlet—right in their own backyard.”
The City of Mandurah has endorsed the project as part of its Skate and BMX Strategy, which identified the need for a new facility to serve Mandurah’s growing northern suburbs.
