Baldivis youth have a new place to hang out and keep fit with the opening of the new Baldivis Youth Space.

The purpose-built outdoor recreation space at Tranby Reserve was officially opened by Mayor Barry Sammels on Saturday and was given a thorough test drive by local youth, who played a big part in coming up with the design of the space.

“The design of the Baldivis Youth Space involved extensive community consultation and input from local primary and secondary students because we wanted to ensure it would be a place that appealed to them,” Mayor Sammels said.

“Our aim was to create an enjoyable, contemporary space that gave young people in the area a sense of ownership, encouraged them to be physically active and gave them opportunities to interact and make new friends. I think we have achieved that and I look forward to it becoming a popular place for young people in Baldivis.”

Features of the facility include a 40m skate plaza, a parkour climbing frame, a ropes course, climbing walls, a chill-out space and four trampolines.

The $450,000 project was designed by Landscape Architect Playce and built by Environmental Industries.

It is the first outdoor recreation space in Baldivis with a second, larger space planned in the future.

“Everyone involved in this project has done a wonderful job in creating a vibrant community space that will provide many benefits for the community of Baldivis,” Mayor Sammels said.

The City will hold a range of activities at the new space over the coming months, including parkour classes.
