Troubled AFL star Ben Cousins has reportedly been assaulted by inmates after refusing to play in a football match.
According to sports journalist Damian Barrett, Cousins was "set upon" inside prison for turning down an offer to play in a scratch match.
“We have had it confirmed that he indeed was assaulted by inmates,” Barrett said on The Footy Show on Thursday night.
Cousins has been in prison for more than seven weeks after being sentenced to 12 months jail in March for repeatedly breaching violence restraining orders against his former partner and drug offences.
It is not known when the alleged assault happened.
