A 12-year-old boy has been charged after he was allegedly involved in the bashing of another boy at a Baldivis park.
Lyncon Owen, 11, was set upon by a group of boys on Monday afternoon after he asked for his friend’s scooter back which one of them had allegedly stolen.
He was allegedly punched and kicked and had to be taken to hospital with a possible broken nose, bruising and a cut to his lip that required stitches.
A 12-year-old Baldivis boy has since been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and will appear in the Rockingham Magistrates Court on April 19.
A second boy was issued with a juvenile caution, while charges against a third are yet to be laid.
Lyncon’s mother Julie Owen said her son has received an overwhelming amount of support from the community since the attack including free self-defence lessons, as well as being invited to attend the Baldivis Brumbies football game on Saturday as a special guest.
Mrs Owen said the comments on social media have been very positive.
“I made him read a lot of it,” she said.
“I think it’s encouraging for him to see that he did the right thing and a lot of people think highly of him for what he’s done.
“I’m so proud of him because he said he would do it again, he’ll always back up a mate.”
