The former Premier has announced his retirement from politics.
After a 27 year career in state politics former Premier Colin Barnett has announced he will be leaving the political game.
The announcement was made today on ABC radio Perth, marking the end of the Member for Cottesloe's role.
Mr Barnett lost the top job after this year's state election saw the McGowan Government win by a landslide 145,084 primary votes.
The 5th longest serving Premier was in the top job for eight and a half years, starting his career in 1990.
A by-election will now be held in his seat of Cottesloe, it's been held by Liberals since its creation in 1950.
