The City of Rockingham’s libraries will be delivering a number of events and activities as part Children’s Book Week 2021.

Children’s Book Week begins on 21 August and is one of the biggest events the City’s libraries support annually. It is a national initiative that focuses on boosting literacy levels in young Australians and the theme for 2021 is Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds.

Celebrations at the City’s libraries will be headlined by the Book Week Bonanza event taking place on Saturday 28 August at the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre from 10am – 12pm. Community members will be able to enjoy craft activities, free children’s entertainment and games.

Throughout Book Week the City’s libraries will also facilitate several Story Time events and a series of author talk sessions with local schools. Writers such as Chris Owen, Monique Mulligan and Steve Heron will be special guests during these sessions.

City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels encouraged families to visit their local library and be a part of Children’s Book Week 2021.

“Reading is essential to improving literacy skills for children and the City is proud to support this national initiative,” Mayor Sammels said.

“Not only does Children’s Book Week help boost literacy in young children, it also supports the strategic direction of the City’s Library and Information Services Strategy 2017 – 2021, which is focused on moving the City’s Libraries into flexible, innovative, creative and inclusive spaces that reinforce the concept of Rockingham as a learning community.

“Children attending the various events at the City’s Libraries are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character and we look forward to welcoming families to all four of our libraries.”
