About 120 workers at Griffin Coal have until midnight to vote on a proposed pay deal that will reduce their pay by about $50,000 a year.
The new enterprise agreement will cut production workers pay by 35 per cent with the leader of WA's mining union describing the recommendation as the most difficult of his career.
Gary Wood from the Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union told Seven West Media he opted to back the agreement because of genuine fears the Collie coal mine could close its gates.
The renegotiated wages will affect about 200 workers.
