The City of Rockingham has announced the winners of the 2017 Breakthrough Music Competition following a range of impressive performances at local shopping centres.
The Act-Belong-Commit Breakthrough Music Competition was held over spring at shopping centres right across the City of Rockingham.
Contestants aged 12-24 years competed against each other in a series of three Heats and a Grand Final, which was held on Saturday 28 October to coincide with the Castaways 10 year celebration on the Rockingham foreshore.
31 entrants performed around the City over five weeks, with 13 finalists performing for the major prize of $2,500 cash and a press kit in the Grand Final.
This is the sixth year the City has run a music talent competition (formerly Festival of New Talent).
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said performers were very professional this year.
“These young performers have conquered their nerves to deliver some stunning performances this year.
“Artists performed covers of songs as well as original works from a wide range of genres including hip hop, contemporary, acoustic and pop."
“I was pretty impressed with the range and the high calibre of different performers this year.
