Detectives are on the hunt for a driver who reversed into a Mandurah tobacco store.

CCTV shows the vehicle reversing into the front of the Capitano Convenience Store on Pinjarra Road about 3.30am on Thursday, March 12, before driving away.

Police say the vehicle caused extensive damage to the shop.

Detectives Taskforce Maverick, a police division that investigates organized crime syndicates involved in the illicit tobacco trade, are calling on anyone with information to get in contact with Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online via www.crimestopperswa.com.au.

Reports can be made anonymously.

The incident happened on the same day that new tobacco laws passed through State Parliament.

Under the reforms, the maximum penalty for possessing a large commercial quantity of illicit tobacco or vaping products will be $4.2 million for an individual or $21 million for a company, along with up to 15 years imprisonment.

The laws also give authorities the power to shut down businesses suspected of selling illegal products while investigations are carried out.
