Vulnerable people in Rockingham and Kwinana now have access to greater support services through a new Domestic Violence Unit.
Attorney-General Christian Porter officially opened the new Domestic Violence Unit (DVU) in Rockingham on Monday which is operated by the Southern Communities Advocacy, Legal and Education Service (SCALES).
“These DVUs are being funded by the Turnbull Government with $3.4 million to bring together legal and social support services in one place, so that those in urgent need of help can access all the services they need in one place,” the Attorney-General said.
“These DVUs are focused on helping those women who are experiencing , or who are at risk of family violence, by making sure that all the services they need can be accessed quickly, simply and without them having to contact multiple providers.
“There is no one-size-fits-all in terms of the support required by women experiencing domestic violence. These DVUs take a different approach, by partnering with a multitude of service providers in the local area to bring together all the supports needed by an individual. This could include financial counselling, mental health support, crisis accommodation and a range of other services.
“There’s no doubt that for anyone trying to escape a violent relationship, the ease of accessing the services they need to help them is critical.”
