An Esperance beach remains closed today after a Mandurah teenager was mauled to death by a shark.
The 17-year-old girl was surfing with her father at Kelp Beds, about 3km east of Wylie Bay on Monday afternoon when she was attacked.
Nine News reports the girl was bitten on the leg and suffered severe blood loss.
The teenager's father managed to drag her to shore, but she later died in hospital due to the extent of her injuries.
It is understood her mother and siblings witnessed the attack from the beach.
Local authorities have closed Wylie Bay beach until further notice and the Department of Fisheries will be conducting beach and water patrols in the area from early Tuesday morning.
"Our advice to water users is to not undertake surfing, swimming or diving activities in the Wylie Bay area for at least the next 48 hours," Department of Fisheries said.
It is the second shark attack in Esperance in two-and-a-half-years after surfer Sean Pollard lost his right hand and left arm at the same break in 2014.
It’s believed the 17-year-old killed by a shark at Esperance was surfing with her father, while her mother and siblings watched on. #9News pic.twitter.com/Z8gVSDImif
