The City of Rockingham will not press charges against the owners of a Labrador Cross which escaped while being walked on a leash and fatally attacked a 15 year old Maltese/Shitzu dog.
Following a four week investigation into the August 6 incident, the City has decided not to press charges against the owner or the people who were caring for the dog at the time.
The decision has been made to humanely euthanise the Labrador Cross dog.
City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels said it was a sad situation
“City Officers conducted a full investigation, and witnesses were interviewed.
“There is insufficient evidence to lay charges against the owner or the people looking after the dog which attacked the Maltese/Shitzu, resulting in injuries that required it be euthanased.
“We understand it was a very sad and unfortunate situation for all involved.
"Dog attacks affect both families in a negative way and in this particular case resulted in two animals having to be put down.”
