A former female teacher from a high school in Perth's southern suburbs has appeared in the Rockingham Magistrates Court, accused of engaging in sexual relationships with three students.

The West Australian reports the 28-year-old woman, who cannot be named to protect the identity of her alleged victims, fronted court on Monday charged with 71 offences including rape, persistent sexual conduct and indecent assault.

The woman committed the alleged offences against three female students aged 13 to 17 between 2015 and 2016.

"It is alleged the incidents occurred while the woman was a teacher at a secondary college in the Mandurah policing district,” a WA Police spokeswoman told The West Australian.

The woman's duty lawyer told the court plea negotiations are underway in relation to the charges.

She was charged last August and stood down from her teaching role shortly after being arrested.

At her last court appearance, the woman said she intended to fight the charges.

She is due to reappear in court next month.
