A Finnish tourist has allegedly been bashed while walking on the Bibbulmun Track.
The 33-year-old was on a track in Paulls Valley with a female friend, who is also Finnish, at 1.30pm on Saturday when he was allegedly hit by a Mitsubishi Triton.
The driver then allegedly got out of the car and struck the victim with a shovel, causing a serious head wound.
Police allege the driver continued to assault the man until his 33-year-old female companion picked up the shovel and struck the driver with it.
A passerby stopped to help and the three of them held the driver down until police arrived.
The male victim, his friend and the driver were all taken to hospital.
A 36-year-old man from Sawyers Valley has been charged with attempting to kill and is due to appear in the Midland Magistrates Court today.
"The male victim and his female friend are both Finnish Nationals, visiting and working in Australia," a WA Police spokesperson said.
"Prior to this incident they did not know the driver of the vehicle and had not been involved in any prior incidents with him."
The investigation is ongoing.
