Peel region firefighters were called out to their first scrub fire of the season at Greenfields where a small blaze broke out in bushland yesterday.
While punters enjoyed the rest of Melbourne Cup day, 15 firefighters were called to Greenfields at about 3:30pm.
They spent the next three hours battling the one hectare blaze with a helicopter also sent to the Lakes Road area to help bring it under control.
A DFES spokesperson says the fire was completely extinguished at 6:24pm.
