The Shire of Murray is placing the spotlight on hoons in August by letting residents know how to report burnouts and other reckless driving behaviour.
The Council said it is about empowering the community with information on how best to report observed occurrences.
Vehicles driven in a reckless manner such as performing burnouts or racing another vehicle, can be impounded under the Road Traffic Act 1974.
Western Australian Police also have the authority to impound the vehicle of drivers who exceed the speed limit by 45km/h or more.
Offenders who’s vehicles are impounded are responsible for all costs incurred including towing and storage.
Anyone who sees reckless driving including excessive speed is being urged to record the vehicle number plate and call 131 444 whilst the incident is taking place.
All reports are treated confidentially.
