The member for Dawesville is being called up by the Opposition.
Member for Dawesville Zak Kirkup has been handed a new senior role in the shadow ministry.
Opposition Leader Mike Nahan announced the changes yesterday, with three swaps in the party.
Zak Kirkup will replace Peter Katsambanis as the Shadow Minister for Corrective Services.
Dr Nahan said since his election in March, Kirkup has been a hard-working party member with a particular passion for improving opportunities for and reducing recidivism by young offenders.
Mr Kirkup said he was looking forward to continuing the fight for the community of Mandurah with a focus on corrective services.
"It's a really exciting opportunity to be part of the opposition to keep the government accountable for what I think is a really important issue in the community," Kirkup said.
"People in Mandurah often raise their concerns with me that people aren't being kept in jail long enough, and what happens when they are in jail.
"The ability to help hold the government to account according to standards that we expect in our community is a really really good thing and I'm really excited to be taking on that job."
Shadow Minister for Environment, Water and Member for the South West, Steve Thomas will take on the additional role of Shadow Minister for Emergency Services.
Dr Nahan said the most recent fires to impact Western Australia were in the south west and great southern regions, and Mr Thomas was well placed to engage with local communities and stakeholders in developing policy, which also impacted the environment portfolio.
Former Shadow Minister for Emergency Services, Ken Baston takes on a new role as Shadow Minister for Northern Australia.
