Lion Air plane carrying 188 people crashes into ocean

A Lion Air plane carrying 188 people has crashed into the ocean after taking off from Jakarta.

According to the ABC, search and rescue authorities have found bodies in the water, along with plane debris and life-jackets.

At a news conference, officials said it had been carrying 178 adults, 1 infant and two babies, as well as two pilots and five cabin crew.

There are no reports of survivors.

Flight JT-610 took off around 6.20am and was due to land in Pangkalpinang but authorities lost contact with the aircraft 13-minutes after take-off.

The head of Indonesia's disaster agency, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, has tweeted images which show debris and personal belongings that came from the aircraft.
