The state government unveils a new program to provide more Western Rock Lobster in time for Christmas.
A state government initiative will provide an extra 12,500 lobsters for the local seafood market in time for Christmas and the new year.
The Local Lobster Program will boost tourism in WA by tagging local catches available from fishing boats or restaurants.
Fisheries Minister Dave Kelley said it will give more locals and tourists a chance to try the state’s iconic ‘wild caught’ lobster fresh from the Indian Ocean.
“This allows fishers to catch and tag up to 50 extra lobsters for sale, direct to the local market." he said.
The tags will be distributed to appropriately licensed commercial fishers at Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development offices in Mandurah, Fremantle, Hillarys, Lancelin, Jurien Bay and Geraldton.
