Police have charged a 31-year-old man for defacing the memorial of Eurydice Dixon.
Andrew Nolch, a self-described independent Scientologist and aspiring comedian, has been charged with vandalising the memorial of raped and murdered woman Eurydice Dixon.
Ms Dixon was raped and murdered while walking home in Melbourne's Princess Park on June 13. She was less than a kilometre from her front door when she was attacked.
The 22-year-old was on her way home from a comedy gig when 19-year-old Jaymes Todd forced himself onto her before killing her. Todd has been charged with Ms Dixon's rape and murder.
Just days after the horrific event a memorial that had been set up in Princess Park was defaced by offensive graffiti, which has now been claimed by Nolch.
Nolch said he planned on being caught after he spray painted lude images on the soccer pitch where Ms Dixon's body was found.
“I was upset, and I want to make this clear, this was not a personal attack at all...this was purely an attack on feminism, on mainstream media for hijacking a vaccine-causing issue and turning it into a men are bad, women’s rights issue,” he told The Age.
Nolch claimed he no longer performs stand-up because his anti-vaccination views were not welcomed in the comedic community.
Friends of the victim said Nolch was known to them.
Police have released the offender on bail but he will front court next month on charges of criminal damage, offensive behaviour and making offensive graffiti.
