Man faces deportation after Mandurah pub attacks

The father bashed one man outside a Mandurah pub and knocked out a second man at Players nightclub.

Seven West Media report Logan Dickson is facing deportation to New Zealand over the two violent attacks which left his victims with serious lifelong injuries.

The young father has been jailed for 4½ years following a court appearance.

The first attack happened in April 2015 when Dickson attacked Matthew Robertson during an argument.

Seven West report Dickson cannot remember the incident, but it's understood he continued to hit Mr Robertson after he fell to the ground.

Dickson was in trouble again 11 months later, when he landed a single punch on Edward Whalley on the dance floor of the Players nightclub.

The 42-year-old victim was out celebrating his birthday when an argument with another man prompted Dickson to step in and punch him.

Mr Whalley was punched so hard his face split open by a then 23-year-old Dickson.

District Court Judge Michael Bowden told Dickson the outcome could have been worse during his sentencing.

“If you resort to violence and you throw a punch at somebody and they fall the wrong way and die, you end up being charged with either murder or manslaughter,” he said.

“(I have) to impose a sentence that hopefully people will take notice of and hopefully that will lead them not to be involved in causing other people grievous bodily harm.”

Dickson pleaded guilty to charges of grievous bodily harm against Mr Whalley.

Back in 2014 Mr Robertson was found near the now demolished Mandurah Bridge a few hours after being bashed by Dickson.

Mr Robertson underwent surgery to insert titanium bars into his broken jaw and according to Seven West he has a diminished sense of smell and no feeling in his lower lip and chin.

Doctors said Mr Whalley arrived at hospital with bleeding on his brain following the one punch attack Dickson inflicted on him.

It's understood Mr Whalley remained unconscious on the floor of the nightclub for around 15 minutes after being punched.

He too has been left with permanent injuries, his speech, sight and balance are affected and he now suffers from debilitating headaches and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Players Nightclub banned Dickson from their premises for five years in October 2015, but he said he wasn't aware of the ban.

Dickson's lawyer Anthony Sullivan said the accused was a changed man, focusing on his family and going sober.

“It’s unfortunate when it takes to this point to get a wake-up call, but he has that wake-up call,” he said.

“It’s not a case of an individual who was out and out engaging in criminal activity, it is an individual who does not mix well with alcohol.”

Dickson will be eligible for parole in 2½ years.
