Mandurah businesses are ready to welcome an anticipated 10,000 extra visitors this month for the city's first ever Winter Wonderland.
The inaugural winter festival featuring an outdoor ice skating rink, food and entertainment around the eastern foreshore has prompted extra shifts for local workers.
Over the last few weeks business owner have told the Peel Chamber of Commerce they're looking at employing additional staff for the projected influx of patrons between August 4 and 27.
Peel Chamber Acting Manager Andrew McKerrell said some businesses were actually thinking of closing during this period because of the road closure for Mandurah Terrace.
"However, with the events that have been planned and the space activation that is scheduled some of these businesses are actually looking more staff which in turn is adding to local employment which we all know is a big issue at the moment.
"This initiative has also employed local people to operate the pop-up ice skating rink itself and local artists such as Golly Graphics and Ricky Gibson who have painted some of the shopfronts to add vibrancy to the area.
"A Winter Wonderland is anticipated to attract between 3,000 and 5,000 visitors during the weekend periods alone with an overall goal of attracting over 10,000 thousand visitors to the area over the month of August."
