A new model has been proposed, only two months after the Police Commissioners order into an internal review.
Police Commissioner Chris Dawson has announced his new plan to restructure the Perth Metro policing area, doubling the districts.
The new proposal comes as Mr Dawson moves to disband former commissioner Karl O'Callaghan's frontline 2020 model.
At the moment we have both the Mandurah and Peel region districts in the South Metropolitan area, but these will fall under one name under the new plan.
The new plan will see the metro area split into north and south, with four districts in each.
Mandurah will round out the south ward, with the next closest district being Fremantle at 65 kilometres away.
Instead of two assistant commissioners there will now be one, and commanders introduced to both the north and south areas.
The northern districts are Perth, Midland, Mirrabooka and Joondalup.
The three remaining south of the city will be Armadale, Cannington and Fremantle.
As part of the new model there will also be a 24-hour state operations centre, operating from the Maylands Incident Control Centre.
"This is really driven by ensuring we have the best possible management structure, in a tighter geographic footprint … and then we can coordinate it better," Mr Dawson said full changes would be rolled out by July next year.
Mr Dawson has assured the public there won't be a shortage of officers, despite being ordered to cut $250 million from his budget over the next five years.
