Mandurah has been named Australia’s fifth-most generous city for 2022 when it comes to GoFundMe pages.

Only two Western Australian cities made the list, with Mandurah coming in at number five and Bunbury seven.

The top fundraiser for the Peel region was for a local father who was left a paraplegic following a freak kite surfing accident in Falcon.

Over $61,000 was raised for Michael Roberts to help modify his family home.

The second biggest fundraiser was for Nicole Weeden who died in a tragic car accident in August.

Just over $58,000 was raised.

The third largest fundraiser was for local electrician Dave Outhwaite who died while working on a power pole in Nirimba in November.

Nearly $20,000 was raised.

Director for GoFundMe Australia Nicola Britton said the calls for support are answered quickly in cities due to the close-knit nature of Australian communities.

“The generosity shown by millions of Australians who donated or launched fundraisers on GoFundMe this year shows that the Aussie spirit of mateship, and backing those in need, is stronger than ever despite economic uncertainty,” she said.

“In the post-pandemic period of rising cost of living, a national housing crisis, and continuing flooding events, it’s important now more than ever that we stand side by side to help one another as personal circumstances continue to evolve."
