New figures from the Australia Taxation Office have revealed Mandurah is Western Australia's welfare capital.
Residents who live between Madora Bay and Wannanup, in the 6210 postcode, received more than $15.5 million in welfare payments in the 2014-15 financial year.
This was followed by people living in the 6061 postcode, which includes the suburbs of Nollamara, Balga and Mirrabooka, who pocketed $12.3 million.
Department of Employment figures from last year revealed Mandurah's unemployment rate was almost double that of Perth's at 11.5 per cent compared to 6.3 per cent.
The figures come a week after the Federal Government announced in its Budget that it would be conducting a drug testing trial of 5000 welfare recipients next year.
The tests will be carried out at three sites across Australia, with unemployment hot spots where illegal drug use is detected in wastewater set to be targeted.
