PIC: File

Police chased the man through backyards in a suburb near Fremantle.

Just after 9 o'clock last night Police chased a man through Kardinya after seeing him with a pole on South Street near Dixon Street.

The chase occurred on foot over fences and through backyards before Police caught up with the man in the backyard of a house.

A fight broke out where one of the officers discharged a Taser but it was ineffective.

It will be alleged the man kicked one of the officers in the face and also kicked and punched the other officer while trying to grab the Taser and subsequently released a second charge.

After several minutes the man was restrained and handcuffed.

All three people involved were taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital for medical treatment, the officers have since been released from hospital.

One officer still has a mild concussion.

The 34 year old Manjumup man has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a public officer, substance to be taken/received with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and being armed in a way to cause fear.

The man remains in hospital under observation, and is due to appear in Fremantle Magistrates Court today.

Police are asking for anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously in the Kardinya and Willagee areas between 7pm and 9pm last night to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au
