MARC stage two redevelopment completion to be celebrated with community open day

One of Mandurah’s biggest community infrastructure projects, the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre (MARC) Redevelopment, will be officially opened to the public later this month.

The centre will be holding a free community open day from 9am until 3pm on April 29 to celebrate the completion of the $42 million project.

Mayor Marina Vergone said stage two of the works were completed ahead of schedule.

“This is one of the biggest community infrastructure projects that Mandurah has ever seen, and we are thrilled to be officially opening it ahead of our anticipated completion date of mid-2017,” Mayor Vergone said.

“This completes the final stage of the long-awaited redevelopment to transform the centre into a modern, state-of-the-art recreational facility that meets the needs of our growing community.

“We’re so proud of what’s been achieved and thank the community for their patience and support throughout this exciting project.”

Stage two of the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre Redevelopment project included:

  • Two new multi-purpose sports courts including events entry, foyer, administration, office,kiosk and first aid facilities
  • New gymnasium and group fitness facilities
  • New main entry, foyer, reception, café, retail and meeting facilities
  • New crèche facilitie
  • New/renovated toilet and change room facilities
  • Renovated existing squash court facilities
  • New/renovated building facades
  • New administration facilities for staff

The centre has had more than 1,127,000 visitors since the stage one aquatic facilities opened in September 2015.

The official VIP opening event will be held on the evening of Saturday, May 13 to coincide with the Mandurah Magic’s local SBL Derby against the Rockingham Flames.
