Relationships Australia is encouraging Aussies to get to know their neighbours in 2018 and to get involved in the community.
Officially Neighbour Day is set to take place on March 25 next year, but Relationships Australia Executive Officer Alison Brook says there's no time like the present to start getting to know your community.
"We all feel better when we belong and belonging to a close community where we know the people that live around us is simply good for everyone," she said.
"The research tells us that children and young people do better and feel safer when they know the people that live around them. Strong, safe and connected communities are good for everyone. They are especially beneficial for children and young people."
In 2003 Australian community activist Andrew Heslop founded National Neighbour Day after hearing about the remains of an elderly woman that were only discovered in her home two years after she died.
Relationships Australia says communities across the country will come together to celebrate and connect with their neighbourhoods through Neigbour Day 2018.
The new Neighbour Day website offers great ideas to help you celebrate Neighour Day as well as free, easy-to-use resources including posters, selfie signs and calling cards to download. You can follow Neighbour Day on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to hear what others are doing in preparation for the big day.
