The Peel Region is one of ten sites chosen as part of the Regional Employment Trials Program.
The $18.4 million project, today announced by Minister for Jobs and Innovation Michaelia Cash and Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government Dr John McVeigh, is designed to support local networks to promote employment in regional areas.
Regional Development Australia Peel Chair John Erren welcomed the announcement.
“We are delighted that the region’s issues are being heard and responded to by the Australian Government," he said.
"This is a real opportunity at the local and regional level to develop positive employment outcomes across the Peel. The ability to access funding to support employment related initiatives is very much needed.”
The trials will inform the delivery of future employment services and help unemployed people in the Peel regions to better access localised employment services and economic growth opportunities.
As part of the program there will be a $1.0 million per region grant program to help stimulate communities to deliver tailored employment solutions at a local level.
The Mandurah and Murray Employment Facilitator, who works across the Peel region, Maryanne Baker said, “This is a great opportunity to make a difference for jobseekers in the region with locally developed and targeted solutions, it will help us utilise the capacity and capability of the region’s workforce.”
The Employment Facilitator will work with the Regional Development Australia Peel Committee to generate projects, connect with local stakeholders and promote economic opportunities as they arise.
The Regional Employment Trials Program commences on the first of October 2018.
