Perth, Mandurah households and businesses urged to turn off sprinklers now

Households and businesses across southern WA are being urged to switch off their reticulation from today, one week ahead of the the annual Sprinkler Switch-off.

Since 2010, scheme and bore water users in Perth, Mandurah, and parts of the South West and Great Southern have been required to turn off garden reticulation from June 1 each year.

It saves more than five billion litres of water over the cooler months, when gardens need less watering.

After a wetter-than-usual autumn, switching off a week earlier is set to save up to a billion litres of water.

While sprinklers must be switched off, hand watering is permitted and some exceptions apply.

Anyone in the Sprinkler Switch-off area spotted using their sprinklers between June 1 and  August 31 risks a $100 fine.
