A Perth Mint employee has been charged after allegedly stealing a gold bar worth over $50,000.
Police will allege The Perth Mint noticed a gold bar missing on April 7 which prompted an internal investigation by the security team.
The matter was then referred to the Gold Stealing Detection Unit.
As a result of inquiries, it was discovered that the one kilogram refined gold bar was allegedly stolen from The Perth Mint and on that day it was valued at $52,457.
Detectives then searched a home in Ballajura on April 11.
A 25-year-old man, who was contracted to the Perth Mint Refinery, has been charged with stealing as a servant and fraud.
He will appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today.
