A recent crackdown on impaired drivers in Mandurah has led to the alleged seizure of two kilos of methylamphetamine.

The coordinated lockdown operation on Saturday, June 13 and into Sunday, June 14 saw almost 7000 drivers subject to alcohol and drug testing in the Peel, with more than 11,000 drivers monitored by mobile cameras.

Of those drivers, 205 were caught speeding, 23 were under the influence of alcohol and 21 had illicit drugs in their system.

Another 15 motorists had no licence, 14 were using a mobile phone while driving and three were not wearing a seatbelt.

Four vehicles were also impounded during the blitz including a grey Subaru Impreza hatchback which was stopped on Eaglemont Street in Greenfields.

During a search of the Subaru, police allegedly located two kilos of methylamphetamine.

A 40-year-old Mandurah man has been charged with possessing a trafficable quantity of methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply to another.

He is due before the Mandurah Magistrates Court on June 19.

Commander Mike Peters from Road Policing Command said the number of offences during the overnight operation was extremely concerning.

“There’s no sugar-coating this - this is disappointing. The level of offending is unacceptable and shows a blatant disregard for the safety of others, especially with the Fatal Five offences we know are killing and seriously injuring people," Commander Peters said.

“Alcohol and drugs continue to feature in far too many serious and fatal crashes. Driving with too much alcohol or any illicit drug in your system significantly impairs your judgement, reflexes and ability to safely use the road. This is selfish behaviour, plain and simple, putting other people’s loved ones at risk.

“We will continue to target the locations where this risk is highest, and the drivers who choose to drink or drug drive, to get them off our roads.”
