Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has thrown his support behind the Lakeslands train station project during a train trip to Mandurah.
The Prime Minister has travelled on a Transperth train to Mandurah before heading to Dolphin Quay to meet with students from 16 high schools in the Canning Electorate.
During the train trip on the Mandurah line, the local member Andrew Hastie briefed the PM on his push for a train stop at Lakelands and fast-tracking the Armadale line extension to Byford.
Malcolm Turnbull said he supports both projects and together with Mr Hastie will seek the WA Premier's co-operation to get them under way.
"There is an opportunity to partner with the state government for more rail infrastructure," Mr Turnbull said.
"I know Andrew is keen to go for two more stations, to Lakelands and then onto Byford and is making a strong case for that.
"I'm looking forward to taking his great ideas and advocacy and discussing them with Mark McGowan and how we can work together to do more for rail.
"We've got a $10 billion dollar rail fund which will obviously be allocated competitively."
