The push is on to make the Peel region the premier trails destination in Western Australia.
All five local government districts will be covered and connected under a Trails Master Plan to promote trails and tourism in the area.
The Peel Regional Leaders Forum will develop the Master Plan to link trails in the Shires of Boddington, Murray, Serpentine-Jarrahdale and Waroona and the City of Mandurah.
Funding of $90,000 was obtained from the Peel Development Commission through Royalties for Regions under its Regional Grants Scheme with a further $35,000 from PRLF, to seek a qualified and experienced consultants to work with the region to develop the plan.
According to PRLF Chairperson Mayor Marina Vergone, the project is just one example of how well the region is working together, and shows that a collective approach is the best strategy for positive outcomes and long-term planning.
The project entails an audit of all current trails and will engage stakeholders to identify potential new trail opportunities, link and coordinate trails across boundaries, recommend a marketing strategy and provide a future governance structure.
Following a quotation process, Common Ground Trails were selected as the successful applicant.
“We are confident that Common Ground will deliver, having only recently developed the Perth and Peel and South West Mountain Bike Master Plans,” Mayor Vergone said.
All five local governments will work closely together during the process with the final strategy to be completed in March 2018.
