Residents from the City of Rockingham can begin planning their Queen’s Baton Relay experience with the street-level detail and community celebrations.

The City of Rockingham are getting into the Commonwealth Games Spirit early, unveiling a new route for their leg of the Queens Baton Relay.

The Baton will travel through the City of Rockingham on the afternoon of Friday February 23 starting with a quick visit to Penguin Island.

Later in the afternoon it'll set off along Arcadia Drive up to the intersection of First Avenue and Boundary Road.

The baton will make it's way to Rotary Park for the next stage along the Esplanade, finishing at Churchill Park at 5:30pm, where a community celebration event will be held that evening.

Mayor Barry Sammels said “The City of Rockingham is very fortunate to be taking an active part in this internationally significant event.

I encourage all our residents to come and support the batonbearers along the route, and join us at Churchill Park to share in the City’s moment as a Commonwealth Games celebration community.”

The Queen’s Baton will arrive on Australian soil in Brisbane on Christmas Eve, after visiting one third of the worlds population during an epic 288 day journey through the Commonwealth.

The 21st Commonwealth Games will be held on The Gold Coast from April 4 2018.
