Premier Mark McGowan will watch on from his local beach this Sunday, as round eight of the Western Australia Open Water Swimming series gets underway at Rockingham Beach.
This Sunday more than 400 people are expected to dive into Rockingham Beach waters for round eight of the family friendly event, sponsored by Naval Base Concrete.
It its tenth year the Swimming WA Open Water Swimming series has become an icon of the WA sporting calendar, bringing pro and amateur swimmers from all ages together.
Competitors will have the choice to swim distances ranging from half a kilometre to 5km with a later start time of 9.00am to cater for people travelling from Perth.
Premier Mark McGowan will be at the starting line sounding off the start of each distance.
Sunday will mark the third time Rockingham Beach will feature as a starting point since the series began in 2008.
Since commencing in November 2017, the OWS Series has had record crowds at their events at Cottesloe Beach, Busselton, Mullaloo, Leighton, Scarborough, Coogee, Harvey Dam and most recently Sorrento.
The OWS Series attracts more than 6000 swimmers over the summer.
After Rockingham there are additional swims schedules for Shorehaven, Rottnest Island, Mandurah and the Swan River.
Online registrations for Rockingham close at 10.00pm tonight, but people can still sign up for a swim on the day.
Mandurah will host round 10 of the series during the March 4 public holiday at Town Beach.
