Over a thousand tonnes of illegally dumped waste has been collected by the City of Rockingham.

Since launching in late 2014 Rockingham's LitterBusters team have collected over 1,100 tonnes of waste, averaging 30 tonnes per month.

Waste has been collected from locations across the city making an impact on the overall amenity of public areas.

Mayor Barry Sammels said he was proud Rockingham was the first local WA government to introduce a rapid response team on-call seven days a week.

Members of the public can contact the team with reports of litter at any time of the day or night over the phone, online or with the LitterBusters app.

Around 2,500 requests are made to the quick response group each year.

Mayor Sammels said the idea for LitterBusters was result of customer satisfaction surveys in which residents identified litter as a priority area.

"Council recognised the need for a concerted effort to address these concerns, so we took the innovative step of creating a dedicated rapid response team. The results over the past three years have been fantastic and we are very pleased to see how the community has responded," he said.

"“LitterBusters has made a big difference to our community and we have seen a significant improvement in the customer satisfaction rating of our performance in litter management since the team commenced.”

Reports made to the taskforce are responded to within 24 hours while they work seven days a week.

The team focuses on surveillance, investigation, removal and prosecution of illegal dumping.

The LitterBusters app can be downloaded free for Apple, Android and Windows devices.

Reports can also be made on 1800-4-Litter (1800 454 883) or online on the City’s website.
