Transperth will provide extended services between Rockingham Train Station and Rockingham Beach, to help get residents to and from major events this summer.
Extended services for the 555 bus route will begin with the Rockingham Christmas Lights Festival on Saturday 15 December at Flinders Lane Car Park. Flinders Lane will be closed between 4.30pm and 7.00pm for the festival, with the 555 bus route extended to 10pm, operating on a 15 minute frequency.
Additional parking will be available at Dixon Road Reserve for the event, with residents able to catch the 555 bus at the Goddard Street bus stop to get to the event.
The City’s New Year’s Eve Celebration at the Foreshore on 31 December 2018 will be the second major event to benefit from the extended services. Route 555 will operate on an eight minute frequency between 4pm – 6pm and will be extended to 1am, operating on a 15 minute frequency from 9pm.
Extra parking for the New Years Eve celebration will be available at the Village Green and Dixon Road Reserve. People parking at Dixon Road Reserve should catch the 555 bus at the Goddard Street bus stop.
The City’s Australia Day Celebration at the Foreshore on January 26 will see route 555 extended to 9.30pm and operating on a 15 minute frequency. Once again, additional parking will be available at the Village Green and Dixon Road Reserve, with residents able to catch the 555 bus at the Goddard Street Stop.
Deputy Mayor Deb Hamblin encouraged residents to either cycle or utilise the extended public transport services on offer during the City’s major events.
“As part of the City’s Summer Series of free, family-friendly, smoke free and alcohol free events, we will be a hosting a number of major events that draw thousands of spectators,” she said.
“With such a major influx of people, getting to and from these events can often be difficult, which is why we are pleased to be able to offer a range of additional parking options and encourage residents to take public transport where possible.
“In addition to the wide range of extra parking and public transport options on offer, residents are also encouraged to cycle. Cycling is a healthy, environmentally friendly and easy way for residents to get around the City’s major events throughout summer.”
